What you need to meet in order to live with SGS Student Housing

Tenant & student – what applies?

To live with us, you need to be an active student. Therefore, we conduct study checks twice a year to ensure that our housing goes to students who are actively studying.

To meet the requirements, you need to complete at least 15 ECTS credits per semester on-site at the University of Gothenburg, Chalmers University of Technology, or Linnaeus University in Gothenburg.

You can live with us for up to 6 years. If you are pursuing a PhD, there is a possibility to extend your stay by up to an additional 4 years. When you finish your studies, you must terminate your housing contract, but you may of course remain in your accommodation during the notice period.

How do the study checks work?

We conduct study checks twice a year. Thanks to our collaboration with the University of Gothenburg and Chalmers, we automatically receive many study results. This means that most of our tenants do not need to upload their certificates manually and do not need to take any action to keep their housing.

If it turns out that you have not completed enough credits, we will contact you via email. You will then receive information on how to apply for an exemption to remain in your accommodation. This may apply, for example, if you have been on sick leave, parental leave, performing military service, or on an exchange semester.

Please note that you cannot apply for an exemption in advance. You only need to submit an application, along with supporting documents, through our control system StudboAdmin once SGS has contacted you. Please also note that we do not accept or process exemption applications submitted via email.

If you do not meet the requirements and are not granted an exemption, your tenancy agreement will be terminated with three months’ notice. This is done to give other students the opportunity for housing.

Do you have questions?

You are always welcome to contact SGS Customer Service with your questions. For the fastest response, we recommend the Housing App, where you can find an FAQ about study checks under “My Housing – Contract Info.” You can also ask questions directly in the chat, which is open 24/7.
