Our history
Since 1951, SGS Student Housing has been an important part of student life in Gothenburg. Through a long-standing collaboration between the municipality and the student unions, we have for over seven decades offered housing that makes student life safer and more meaningful. With a focus on sustainability, innovation, and the needs of students, we continue to develop the student housing of the future and the knowledge city of Gothenburg.
Safe student housing since 1951
Since its founding in 1951, the Gothenburg Student Housing Foundation, or SGS, has been a trusted partner for students seeking accommodation in Gothenburg. The foundation was established by the City of Gothenburg and the Gothenburg United Student Unions with the aim of offering affordable housing with quality and variety. The board includes representatives from the City of Gothenburg, the Gothenburg United Student Unions, the University of Gothenburg, and Chalmers University of Technology.

Sustainability and digital innovation in focus
Today, SGS is not only focused on providing housing, but also on developing modern, sustainable, and smart living environments. Over the past decade, for example, SGS has supplied all electricity to its student housing from wind power, demonstrating a long-term commitment to the environment. At the same time, a digitalization of systems and services is underway to make finding and living in student housing even smoother for students.
Med en tydlig strategi för 2026–2030 jobbar SGS målmedvetet för att skapa trygga, hållbara och attraktiva bostäder som möter framtidens krav – allt för att Göteborgs studenter ska kunna fokusera på sina studier och trivas i sin studentstad.
