Accommodation
Subletting
Going traveling, studying a semester abroad, or trying out living with your partner?
Here’s everything you need to know about subletting your accomondation.

Do you want to sublet?
SGS approves subletting for exchange semesters, study breaks, internships elsewhere, trial accommodation and longer stays abroad. The subtenant must study at least 15 credits/semester on site at the University of Gothenburg or Chalmers during the rental period.
Rentals can be granted for a maximum of one year. You must have lived in your home for at least 6 months and intend to return after the rental period.
Summer rentals
It is allowed to sublet during June, July and August without the first tenant having a reason for subletting. However, the subtenant must be an active student at the University of Gothenburg or Chalmers University of Technology during the summer, at least 5HP.
The application can be emailed in only after the subtenant has received their acceptance letter.

How do I go about it?
You are responsible for finding a tenant who meets the requirements. For example, you can post an ad on social media and in the Housing App community.
Once you have found a suitable tenant, fill in the form and email it together with the certificate to Customer Services for processing. Then sign a subletting agreement with your tenant, setting out the notice period, rent, any deposit, etc. There are many good templates to use on the internet, such as the Fastighetsägarnas contract template.
Your responsibilities as a first-time tenant
Even if you are subletting, you, as the first tenant, are fully responsible for the property throughout the rental period. This means that you are responsible for paying your rent on time and for keeping your home insurance – even when you are not living there.
We also recommend that your subtenant takes out their own home insurance, so that you are both covered in case something happens.
To make life easier for your tenant, you can easily invite them to be your roommate in the Housing app. They can then report faults, book the laundry room and read notices from the notice board – directly on their mobile phone.
Convenient for you. Easy for your tenant.
