What does study check mean?
To ensure that our housing is rented to active students, SGS Student Housing conducts two study checks each year. To be eligible to rent accommodation from us, you must complete at least 15 ECTS credits per semester on-site at the University of Gothenburg, Chalmers University of Technology, or Linnéuniversitetet. The maximum tenancy period is 6 years, with an additional 4-year extension possible for doctoral studies. After completing your studies, you are required to terminate your lease. You may remain in the accommodation during the notice period after graduation.
Thanks to our strong cooperation with Chalmers University of Technology and the University of Gothenburg, we automatically receive around 6,000 study results each semester. Other tenants must upload their academic transcripts and a certificate of registration manually, which our customer service team then reviews.
How does the verification process work?
The study verification begins on Monday, March 23, for tenants who moved in before December 1, 2025. Tenants who did not complete 15 ECTS credits in the previous semester will receive an email informing them of the ongoing verification and further details about applying for a possible exemption. Tenants who did not earn the required credits and are not granted an exemption will have their lease terminated so that a new student can use the accommodation.
During the study verification period, customer service experiences a higher workload than usual. We therefore appreciate it if you follow the specified deadlines to ensure the process runs as smoothly as possible.
